£7,99500

Adolf Hitler Personal Formal Silverware, Oval Serving Tray, by Bruckmann & Sohne ‘925’

An absolutley superb solid silver oval serving tray from Adolf Hitler’s personal formal silverware. To the centre of the tray it features a large embossed Führer Adler (the Leader’s Eagle) clutching a wreathed Swastika which is flanked by Hitler’s initials ‘A’ & ‘H’, this is bordered by a beautiful rectangular, greek-key ‘meander’ frame, impressed into the silver. The tray is also accentuated by a raised rounded band edge to the obverse. The reverse side of the tray features the Führer Adler motif from the pressed side so appears ‘H’ & ‘A’ as opposed to the obverse. There is then the impressed Bruckmann maker mark along with the further hallmarks; a crescent moon, the imperial crown, the imperial eagle (partialy visible), and the silver purity mark ‘925’.

Originally there are believed to have been six complete sets of 500 pieces, 3,000 pieces in total, commissioned by Albert Speer and manufactured by Bruckmann in the ‘formal pattern’ of silver flatware and tableware presented to Hitler on the event of his 50th birthday on 20th April 1939. The formal silverware sets were distributed among the places Hitler frequented the most; the ‘Berghof’ (Hitler’s mountain home), ‘Kehlsteinhaus’ (the Eagle’s Nest), the ‘Gasthaus’ (Guest House) at Obersalzberg, the ‘Braune Haus’ (the ‘Brown House’), his ‘Prinzregentenplaz’ apartment in Munich, and the ‘Reichskanzlei’ in Berlin.

The Formal pattern AH silver items can also be found with ‘800’ and ‘935’ purity stamps.

The design for the AH Formal silverware is attributed to Adolf Hitler himself adding yet another level of desirable collectability to these pieces!

*A rectangular version of this tray sold for a staggering £28,000. at an auction in the United Kingdom back in 2012!
