1936 BERLIN OLYMPICS SOUVENIR SILVER CANDLE HOLDER, MADE BY JEWISH SILVERSMITH JACOB GRIMMINGER
Beautiful little solid silver candle holder from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, approx. 3.5 in. dia. x 2.5 in. tall, showing the Olympic rings and the year ‘1936’ in relief on the front side. The baseplate is covered with a green suede leather material. The reverse side is hallmarked with a ‘925’ silver purity stamp, and a maker’s mark from a Jewish-owned silver firm ‘Jacob Grimminger’, whose hallmark was shaped like the Star of David with the letter ‘G’ in the center.
Jakob Grimminger worked in Schwabisch Gmund. The firm was founded in 1893 and by the 1930’s had a fine reputation as producer of modern silver. Grimminger is written about and his maker’s mark is illustrated in – ‘Art Nouveau and Art deco Silver’- by Annelies Krekle-Aalberse.
A super rare Third Reich silver souvenir silver candle holder produced for Hitler’s 1936 Olympic games, by a Jewish Silversmith, awesome!
Great talking piece and excellent investment opportunity.
