Bruckmann & Sohne Silver Dinner Knife from Adolf Hitler`s Glass Observation Wagon 10 ‘282’

A Fabulous and very rare art deco-styled Bruckmann & Sohne Silver Dinner Knife, specially produced for the Deutsche Reichsbahn Sonderzugs.
Other than Hitler`s Private wagon 10 206, which was blown up on 7th May 1945, his Glass Observation wagon 10 282 is probably the rarest and, strangely enough, the least talked about of all the Fuhrersonderzug cars.10 282 was presented to Hitler by the Deutsche Reichsbahn for his 50th birthday in April 1939, it was a spectacular all-glass observation car with incredible 360-degree panoramic views, and was complete with dining and lounge facilities. Intended to be incorporated into the Fuhrersonderzug to allow Hitler and guests to enjoy the vistas of the Third Reich whilst traveling throughout the countryside, however, the outbreak of war resulted in this beautiful and unique railway carriage being placed in storage.
For further information on 10 282 please watch out for our ‘282’ blog coming soon.
The knife carries designation marks for Hitler`s Glass Observation Wagon number ‘282’.
The knife handle has a tapered edge to obverse and reverse and is angled & tapered to the base. The obverse features a finely detailed Deutsche Reichsbahn Eagle with wreathed Swastika straddled by the letters D and R all in relief to the bottom of the handle, to the top of the handle is the impressed Bruckmann & Sohne ‘RM800 Eagle and Crown’ (indicating 800 silver content) makers mark. number ‘282’ indicating the wagon number. To the reverse handle top is found the impressed number ‘282’ indicating the wagon number.

Condition:

The knife displays surface marks and tiny scratches which are more likely due to storage rather than use, although to the handle base there is a dent to one edge. Overall a beautiful display piece, an extremely rare ‘Hitler’ DR utensil. A superb investment piece.
