NSDAP Formal Silverware Heavy Round, numbered, Sideplate by Wellner

A fabulous and very rare silver plated, heavy round sideplate by famous German silversmith Wellner. Used at formal gatherings and party meetings of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei). This superb plate has a narrow flat outer rim with a gentle slope leading down to a shallow bowl. It displays an engraved NSDAP Eagle & wreathed swastika centered to the center top of the slope. To the reverse is found the maker mark ‘Wellner’, followed by a small circle with the number ’22’, which indicates the silver content, then to the lower reverse of the rim is a stamped number ‘170099’, and further to the right of the number is a little stamped ‘H’. The base is heavy copper, indicating that this plate would have been heated in the kitchen to keep food, maybe soup, warm when served. A very rare, early, NSDAP Formal silver tableware piece.
