£2,95000

Nymphenburg Porcelain Dome Lidded Cheese/Butter Dish from Hermann Göring’s Guest Wagon 10 ‘234’

An incredibly rare snow-white porcelain dome lidded cheese or butter dish, specially produced by the Nymphenburg factory in Munich for the Deutsche Reichsbahn Sonderzugs.
The dish carries designation marks for Hermann Göring’s Sonderzug ‘Asien’, and in particular carriage number ‘234’ which was Göring’s guest wagon.
The highly glazed porcelain is accentuated with a fine red trim and even finer gold trim to the rim of the dome lid and to the dish edge. Centered to the main body of the lid is the Deutsche Reichsbahn insignia, a gold eagle with wreathed swastika straddled by the letters D and R. The lid is topped with a lovely knurled lifter. The dish has a raised center wall inside which would have been placed either little butter balls or cheese pieces. To the underside of the dish is found the green Nymphenburg crest, an impressed Nymphenburg shield, and a little inscribed number ‘1246’, plus a hand-painted number ‘234’ in black indicating the wagon number. The inside top of the dome lid has also a hand-painted number ‘234’ in black confirming the wagon number.
