Deutsche Reichsbahn Formal Napkin & Silver Napkin Ring Set from Hermann Göring`s Dining Wagon 10 ‘243’

A fabulous little napkin and napkin ring set used on Hermann Göring`s Dining Wagon 10 ‘243’, 243 was commissioned as Göring`s main dining wagon when his primary dining wagon, 10 241 was removed from service for upgrades which included the fitting of an electric kitchen and indirect fluorescent lighting. 243 became the reserve dining wagon when 241’s upgrade was completed.
The set comprises a beautiful light cream-coloured linen napkin produced specifically for the Deutsche Reichsbahn Sonderzugs, the napkin has a lovely silky feel and displays a wonderful sheen effect with two-tone stitching creating a smooth, almost golden-coloured inner border to the obverse and to the inside square on the reverse. A quite stunning Eagle and Swastika Deutsche Reichsbahn Motif is machine stitched to the center of the napkin and can be seen in reverse to the backside. The napkin carries a designation mark for Hermann Göring`s ‘Asia’, and in particular carriage number ‘243’ which is identified in the form of a stitched number “243” to the lower-left corner of the inner border.

The Silver Napkin Ring is oval-shaped with a rolled top and bottom edge, it is marked with the engraved letters ‘DR’ (Deutsche Reichsbahn) centered on the front face, and centered on the opposite side is the number ’37’ which most probably relates to the table or place setting. To the bottom edge of one of the elongated sides is the Bruckmann maker mark, a ‘B’ along with a small locomotive, and on the other end is the stamped ‘243’ which is the wagon designation.

A super-rare Deutsche Reichsbahn, Hermann Göring pairing of matching napkin and napkin ring used on Göring`s 243 dining wagon on Sonderzug Asia. Anice display and investment piece.

    Condition:

The napkin is in absolutely beautiful condition, has no rips or tears, and is very clean. There is some ‘spotting’ in the form of tiny lightish-brown marks, otherwise minor cloth creases due to folding which could be ironed out if so wished.

The napkin ring is in superb condition with just some minor surface wear, tiny surface marks, and scratches, there is a patina spot off to the left of the ‘DR’.
